Private Practice & Clinical Leadership

In my private practice, I support teenagers, college students, young adults, adults, parents, and families throughout Westchester County. My work is practical, collaborative, and individualized, with attention to how emotions, behaviors, relationships, family dynamics, school, work, and life experiences influence one another.

To expand access to mental health care in Westchester, I developed Psychological Services of New York, P.C. into a group practice that includes a team of dedicated clinicians. I personally oversee the practice and work collaboratively with the clinical team to help ensure that each client receives thoughtful, professional, and individualized care.

Every inquiry is reviewed with attention to the prospective client’s concerns, goals, availability, insurance coverage, and clinical needs so that individuals and families can be connected with the most appropriate clinician within the practice.

Psychological Services of New York, P.C. provides in-person therapy in Scarsdale and Pleasantville, as well as virtual therapy throughout New York State when appropriate.

Dr. Joseph R. Yanni, Psy.D.

Clinical Psychologist in Scarsdale & Pleasantville

Background & Expertise

I’m Dr. Joseph Yanni, a licensed psychologist and founder of Psychological Services of New York, P.C. My work focuses on helping teenagers, college students, young adults, adults, parents, and families navigate anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, school and college transitions, relationship challenges, and other important life transitions.

While my practice serves clients across the lifespan, much of my work centers on helping young people and their families navigate the transition from adolescence into adulthood. This period can bring increasing academic expectations, changing relationships, greater independence, and uncertainty about what comes next. I work with young people to build confidence, develop practical coping strategies, strengthen relationships, and move forward with greater direction. I also support parents who are learning how to remain involved while adjusting to their child’s growing need for independence.

I began my career as a school psychologist, where I continue to support students with emotional disabilities in a specialized educational setting near New York City. This experience has provided me with a practical understanding of how emotional, academic, social, and family challenges often intersect. My work has included helping children, adolescents, and families navigate anxiety, emotional dysregulation, trauma, school-related concerns, behavioral difficulties, and transitional challenges.

A Collaborative & Integrative Approach

Working in both school psychology and private practice has helped me develop a broad understanding of how school experiences, family dynamics, emotional functioning, relationships, and personal development influence one another. My work often includes collaboration with parents, educators, and other professionals to support meaningful emotional, social, and academic progress.

I believe therapy should feel collaborative, individualized, and responsive to the needs of each client rather than following a scripted or one-size-fits-all approach. I use an integrative approach to therapy that draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic theory, humanistic care, person-centered therapy, behavioral strategies, and lifestyle-based interventions.

This allows treatment to be tailored to each client’s goals, strengths, relationships, developmental stage, emotional concerns, and life circumstances. Therapy can then adapt as the client’s needs change and remain practical, relevant, and grounded in what is most useful at a particular point in treatment.

Over the course of my clinical work, this approach developed into The Yanni Integration Approach, a practical framework for helping therapists make thoughtful, individualized clinical decisions based on the person, the problem being addressed, and what may be most helpful at a particular point in therapy.

I am the author of A Therapist’s Guide to Integrative Therapy: The Yanni Integration Approach: A Practical Framework for Real-World Clinical Decision-Making, which further explores this framework and the practical realities of individualized clinical work.
